Distinguished Research Mentor Award

Graduate Medical Education, Inc., a partnership between Ingham Regional Medical Center, Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and Sparrow Health System, established the Distinguished Research Mentor Award in order to provide recognition for outstanding faculty mentors. The recipient of the Distinguished Research Mentor Award will receive a plaque and be recognized at the Lansing Community Research Day on April 29, 2010 at the University Club in East Lansing.

 

Criteria for Nominees

  • In order to recognize as many mentors as possible, a nominee must not be a past recipient of the Mentor Award.
  • Nominees need to have experience in research.
  • Nominees must support interns/residents/fellows research efforts.

Making the Nomination

Please include the name of the mentor and a typed essay (approximately one-half to one page, not exceeding one page) describing the nominee and their impact on intern/resident/fellow research.

Suggestions for the essay:

  • Describe how the nominee motivates/teaches interns/residents/fellows;
  • Describe the qualities that make this professor an outstanding research mentor;
  • Give examples of how this professor actively encouraged inquiry, innovation and created opportunities for students to do research;
  • Give examples of how this professor guided you in research ethics, presentation and publication opportunities and, planning for continuing research and/or graduate studies;
  • Give examples of how this professor advocates for undergraduate research.

Submission Process:

  • Two interns/residents/fellows must sign and date the nomination.
Nominations should be sent to Carol Parker Lee at carol.parkerlee@hc.msu.edu no later than March 15, 2010.
