PowerPoint Guidelines for Poster Preparation

If you are preparing your Poster using PowerPoint:

  • Go into Power Point and open a new Presentation.
  • Click on “File”, then “Page Set Up”, then “Custom".
  • For the size use either 36” by 48” or 48” by 48”.
  • Select a simple font and use it consistently throughout the poster. Use both upper and lower case letters, especially in the body of your presentation. Make font large enough to read from at least three feet away.
  • You will only be making 1 slide.
  • You can import your graphics (figures, tables, etc). Use “Insert”, then “Picture” and then “From File”. Locate the appropriate file and document and click insert. The program will then permit you to move pieces around appropriately.
  • We will provide poster boards/stands to display your project information. These boards are 4 feet x 4 feet in size. You may also choose to display information on multiple sheets of paper that can be attached to the poster boards/stands. We will provide Velcro for this purpose.
  • If you wish to have a poster made, the names of some businesses in the area that make posters are: MSU Graphic Production 353-8670, Kinko's 332-5855, Cool's & Currier 381-8221. You normally take a computer disk to these establishments.
  • Your presentation should be paper (or laminated poster), not electronic--this allows for full lighting so that guests can walk about the room easily.
  • You may wish to bring copies of any articles (submitted or published) or presentation materials related to your project that you would like to make available to interested parties.
  • Always credit the organizations and people who have made your study possible and/or have funded your study.
